Gerdau is currently seeking a Yard Operator/Welder for its Perth Amboy facility.
Responsibilities:
Torching/Burning/Cutting of various materials
Ability to work in laborer role (frequent lifting, sorting, bending, stooping, and working in heavy industrial environment).
Assist the recycling division with preparation of materials for shredder operation.
The ability to work independently, and as part of a team
Very safe worker with good judgment
The ability to follow all safety guidelines.
Performing highly repetitive routine duties, requiring care and constant focus on working safely and adhering to all safety guidelines
Working closely with crane operators and assist in performance of duties as instructed to prepare rail scrap for transport
Participating in daily safety meeting
Participate in monthly safety audits
Assisting fellow yard operators with operational problems
Working well in a team based environment as well as independently
Sorting, bending, stooping and working in heavy industrial environment
Working outdoors in various climates
Qualifications include:
Experience with oxygen/propane torching/burning/cutting. (5 plus years; 10 years of experience preferred)
Experience with mobile equipment (fork lift, skid steer and wheel loader)
Experience in scrap steel (Has worked in a scrap or recycling yard) preferred.
Must be able to work outdoors in various climates all year round.
